53rd Anniversary of Bible Reading & Prayer Out of Schools

It was in 1963 that Madalyn Murray O’Hair (and athiests that backed her) achieved her mission to take God out of our public schools by eliminating Bible reading and prayer. Since that time, generations of children who have not been exposed to God and His Word have grown up and we’re seeing the distressing results. It is clear in Psalm 78 that each generation must teach their children “the praises of the Lord and his strength and his wonderful works that he has done”. (v. 4)  Why? “That they (the children) might set their hope in God, and not forget the works of God, but keep his commandments” (v.7) Why? So that they “might not be as their fathers, a stubborn and rebellious generation, a generation that set not their heart aright, and whose spirit was not steadfast with God.” (v. 8) Unfortunately, we are witnessing this stubborn and rebellious generation today, because they have not be taught about the True and Living, All-Powerful God of the Bible!

BUT GOD! In 2001 He gave us another chance to teach the children about Him! The Supreme Court literally opened the door for us as Christians to share the Gospel without restraints in After School Good News Clubs in the same public schools where the name of Jesus hasn’t been uttered for decades!  Many pastors and church members do not even know about this great mission field that has opened before us. Access to thousands of children and their families is all around us–right there in our communities, in public elementary schools that are within walking distance of many Bible-believing churches!

New churches are joining Mission 4/14 weekly by literally adopting their community school as a new outreach ministry. Schools are opening; principals are telling other principals, pastors are calling other pastors to let them know the good news of this untouched mission field where children and their families are waiting to hear the Gospel message.

Statistics prove that 80% of today’s youth will never darken the door of a church. We must take Jesus’ final command seriously, “Go ye into all the world and preach the Gospel to every creature. . .” (Mark 16:15).  Take the challenge in 2013. Children are waiting to hear about Jesus. Let God use you to get Him back into the school nearest your church!
